Columba & Aquila Reflect and Review

Friday 16th October 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,
It was lovely to see so many of you on Wednesday and to talk about how we can work together to best support your children. Our next parents' evening is on Wednesday 21st October.

This Week
Columba Class
In English, we planned, drafted and edited a diary entry using a chronological structure and sensory details. We focused on using parentheses and maintaining accurate tense agreement.
As mathematicians, we focused on multiples and common multiples. In our Life Savers lesson, we explored the question "Where does our money come from?"
Aquila Class
In English, we planned and drafted our stories set in imaginary worlds using semi commas, ambitious vocabulary and detailed descriptions of the setting.
As mathematicians, Aquila have been revising and reviewing fractions. We’ve recapped finding a common multiple of the two denominators when adding or subtracting fractions.
Both Classes
This week both classes have explored computer systems, looking at how the WWW works to give accurate information using web crawlers to index the internet.

Next Week
Both Classes

In RE, we will be exploring the question What is the best way for a Muslim to show commitment to God? Children will begin by naming a commitment that is important to them and explaining why it matters. They will then explore some of the ways Muslims might show commitment to God, before deciding which they think is the best way and explaining their reasons.
On Monday, children will take part in a Home, Fire and Road Safety talk.
Columba Class
In Maths, we will be learning about common factors, square numbers, prime numbers and cube numbers.
Aquila Class
In maths, we will be continuing to look at fractions, moving on to explore mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Harvest Service

We are excited for our annual Harvest Service! All families are warmly welcome to join us at St Peter and St Paul's Church on Thursday 22nd October at 10:00am.

We would be very grateful for any parents or grandparents who are able to volunteer to walk down to the church with us—we will be leaving school at 9:15am. Please email your child's phase inbox if you are able to help.

Children are invited to bring an in-date, dry good as an act of service to be donated to the Oxford Food Hub (such as pasta, tinned goods, or cereal). Please note that children will need to be able to carry their donation themselves, as they will not be taking backpacks to the church.

Parent Forum

We will be holding our Parent Forum meetings on the following dates this year:

  • Tuesday 20th October

  • Tuesday 23rd March

  • Tuesday 15th June

All meetings run from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, and every parent is warmly invited to attend. Please note that to keep these sessions effective and focused, we will not discuss individual children or specific classes. Following on from our last meeting, the agenda for our first session in October will focus entirely on Communication Channels.

If you have any suggestions for topics you would like us to discuss at future forums, please email us directly at leadership@nhps.org.uk. We look forward to seeing you there!
