Columba and Aquila Reflect and Review 22.10.26

Dear Parents and Carers,

It was lovely to see so many of you at parents' meetings this week. Thank you for coming.

RE – Thinking as Theologians

In RE, we explored the question: What is the best way for a Muslim to show commitment to God? Children began by naming a commitment that is important to them and explaining why it matters. They then explored some of the ways Muslims might show commitment to God, before deciding which they think is the best way and explaining their reasons.

Home, Fire and Road Safety

On Monday, children took part in a Home, Fire and Road Safety talk delivered by a Home and Community Safety Advisor from Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service. They learnt about:

•       why smoke alarms matter and how to look after them, including testing them once a week

•       the "triangle of fire" (heat, fuel and air) and common causes of fires at home

•       the key message: Get out, stay out, call 999

Please find the activity booklet attached. More fire and road safety advice is available at www.365alive.co.uk.

Maths

In Maths, Columba learnt about common factors, square numbers and prime numbers.

In Aquila, we continued exploring fractions: adding and subtracting mixed numbers with different denominators and across a boundary.

Home Learning

•       Please complete the Maths Practice Journal – Week 7 and return it to school on Tuesday 3rd November.

•       Please encourage your child to practise on Times Tables Rock Stars regularly. Let us know if you need their login details.

Spelling – Columba Class

This week's spelling rule: the prefixes dis-, in-, il- and im- mean "not" or "the opposite of". Adding a prefix doesn't change the spelling of the root word. The prefix in- changes to:

•       il- before words beginning with l (illegal)

•       im- before words beginning with m or p (impolite)
