Corvus & Draco Reflect and Review

Dear Parents and carers,

Firstly, it was lovely to see so many of you at Parents’ Evening this week and we look forward to seeing many more on Wednesday.

This week

As readers and writers, Corvus have studied, planned and written a non-chronological report about the Stone Age, using our knowledge from our history unit earlier this term.

As mathematicians, Corvus have started to add and subtract using the column method (without exchanging), enjoying the process and showing great care over our presentation. Draco have been finding efficient ways to add and subtract 4 digit numbers, including using the adjusting method and estimating by rounding numbers.

As computing experts, we explored how digital devices can help us. As theologians, we began to think about how we show commitment to things in our own lives, preparing for our new unit on the importance of prayer in Islam. We also completed our money lesson for this term, thinking about the different reasons that people work. We discussed and ranked some ourselves, before thinking about the kinds of jobs we might want to do in the future and why.

In Science, we have been exploring magnetic fields investigating the distance it takes for objects to attract to different types of magnets. As athletes, we continued to improve our dribbling and tackling skills before playing small 4 on 4 matches. We also continued to build our tag rugby skills with the sports coach.

Next week

Next week, it is RE week. We will therefore be looking at prayer in Islam not only explicitly in R.E. lessons but also by working towards writing an explanation text on the subject in English. As mathematicians, Corvus will continue our practice of the column method, expanding it by starting to cross tens boundaries. Draco will be learning how to multiply and divide by 3, 6, 9 and 7. As musicians, we will start to craft our songs, writing lyrics for a song about the Stone Age in preparation for our musical workshops with Oxford Song next term.

Children are invited to bring an in date, dry good as an act of service to be donated to the Oxford Food Hub such as pasta, tinned goods, or cereal. Please note children will need to be able to carry their donation themselves and will not be able to take backpacks to the church with them.
