Dear Parents and Carers,
It was lovely to see so many of you at parents' meetings this week. Thank you for coming.
In RE, we explored the question: What is the best way for a Muslim to show commitment to God? Children began by naming a commitment that is important to them and explaining why it matters. They then explored some of the ways Muslims might show commitment to God, before deciding which they think is the best way and explaining their reasons.
On Monday, children took part in a Home, Fire and Road Safety talk delivered by a Home and Community Safety Advisor from Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service. They learnt about:
• why smoke alarms matter and how to look after them, including testing them once a week
• the "triangle of fire" (heat, fuel and air) and common causes of fires at home
• the key message: Get out, stay out, call 999
Please find the activity booklet attached. More fire and road safety advice is available at www.365alive.co.uk.

In Maths, Columba learnt about common factors, square numbers and prime numbers.
In Aquila, we continued exploring fractions: adding and subtracting mixed numbers with different denominators and across a boundary.
• Please complete the Maths Practice Journal – Week 7 and return it to school on Tuesday 3rd November.
• Please encourage your child to practise on Times Tables Rock Stars regularly. Let us know if you need their login details.
This week's spelling rule: the prefixes dis-, in-, il- and im- mean "not" or "the opposite of". Adding a prefix doesn't change the spelling of the root word. The prefix in- changes to:
• il- before words beginning with l (illegal)
• im- before words beginning with m or p (impolite)

Open Day
Saturday 7th November 10am-12pm is our annual Open Day, while this day is predominately aimed towards families who may want to join our school next academic year, we open the school to existing families too. There will be a range of activities for the children to enjoy. All families are welcome, children are unable to attend without an adult to supervise them. Menna, Upper School Lead, and Amy will also be leading a short information session on the Year 5/6 Curriculum between 10:30-10:45 in Draco classroom.
Have a restful half term, and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 3rd November
