Columba and Aquila - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents and carers,

We had a busy and purposeful week of learning across both classes.

This week in English, as poets we wrote poems, drawing their inspiration from The Journey and exploring what it feels like to travel to a new place. We used imagery, similes and personification to create vivid descriptions of settings, emotions and experiences.

As mathematicians, Columba focused on fractions, learning how to multiply fractions, including unit fractions by integers, non-unit fractions by integers, and mixed numbers by integers. Aquila focused on algebra, working with function machines, formulae and expressions.

As food technologists, we explored seasonal fruit and vegetables and how the UK climate affects when food is grown. We also considered how reducing food waste can support a more sustainable future. Using this knowledge we have begun to plan a celebratory dish for Chinese New Year. 

Columba took part in their third Climate Education Workshop, which focused on food and greenhouse gases, and discussed how making climate-friendly food choices can help protect the environment.

Next Week

In Maths, Columba will work on fractions of an amount, finding the whole and using fractions as operators. Aquila will continue with algebra, focusing on formulae and equations. In RE and English, we will begin our inquiry into Sanātana Dharma exploring the question: What is the best way for a Sanātani to show commitment to God?

Home Learning – Spelling & Vocabulary

Maths Practice Journals are due on Monday. Please continue to support your child by encouraging them to practise their spellings and read daily at home, as regular practice makes a big difference to confidence and progress.
