Columba and Aquila - Reflect and Review
Dear parents and carers,
We have had another focused and productive week across the curriculum.
This week in English, we planned, drafted and edited explanation texts, focusing on using parentheses, semi-colons and conjunctions accurately and effectively.
As mathematicians, Columba continued working on equivalent fractions and decimals, exploring thousandths as fractions and decimals, and finding the area of compound shapes. Aquila focused on finding the area of triangles using formula.
As historians, we learned about Jacques Francis and Henry VIII, as well as Diego, Francis Drake and Elizabeth I, continuing our exploration of diversity and seafaring in the Tudor period.
Next Week
Aquila will complete Mock SATs, and Columba will undertake maths and reading assessments.
In English, we will explore and draft riddles, focusing on structure, wordplay and precise vocabulary.
In Maths, Columba will represent thousandths on a place value chart, order and compare decimals up to three decimal places, round to the nearest whole number and find the perimeter of polygons. Aquila will focus on finding the area of parallelograms and working out the volume of cuboids.
In History, we will continue learning about Tudor seafaring, including John Anthony, Edward Francis and the transition to the House of Stuart.
Home Learning
Please continue to encourage your child to read daily and practise their spellings regularly, as short and consistent practice greatly supports confidence, fluency and overall progress. Maths Practice Journals are due on Monday, as we will be marking them in class that day.
