Columba and Aquila - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents and carers,

We have had another busy week of learning. Aquila completed some of their Mock SATs this week, approaching the tests with concentration and perseverance (see below for a SATS meeting date after Easter). We are very proud of how hard they have worked this week. Columba also undertook maths and reading assessments, giving them the opportunity to show their understanding and progress.

In English, we explored and drafted riddles, focusing on structure, wordplay and precise vocabulary to make them engaging for the reader.

As Mathematicians, Columba represented thousandths on a place value chart, ordered and compared decimals up to three decimal places, rounded to the nearest whole number and found the perimeter of polygons. Aquila focused on finding the volume of cuboids using the formula: volume = length x width x height.

As Historians, we continued learning about Tudor seafaring, including John Anthony and Edward Francis, and explored the transition from the House of Tudor to the House of Stuart.

Next Week

In English, as writers we will draw inspiration from Treason by Berlie Doherty and begin writing adventurous stories, focusing on powerful punctuation and ambitious vocabulary.

In Maths, Columba will focus on rounding to the nearest whole number, rounding to one decimal place, and developing their understanding of percentages. Aquila will begin looking at statistics and interpreting data.

As time-travelling reporters, the children will research and role-play interviews with a Tudor figure we have studied so far, focusing on a particular historical event.

In History, we will continue exploring the people and events that shaped Tudor England and deepen our understanding of life during this fascinating period.

Home Learning

Please continue to encourage your child to read daily and practise their spellings regularly, as short and consistent practice greatly supports confidence, fluency and overall progress. Maths Practice Journals are due on Monday, as we will mark them in class that day.
