Columba and Aquila - Reflect and Review
Dear parents and carers,
It was lovely to see so many of you at the first Parents’ Evening. The next one will take place on 11th March.
As readers, we started reading Treason by Berlie Doherty. We researched information about the Tudors, Henry VIII and what treason meant in Tudor times. We discussed how to show awareness of the audience when sharing research and practised using a formal tone in explanation texts.
As mathematicians, Columba focused on decimals up to two decimal places, equivalent fractions and decimals, as well as finding the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. Aquila worked on decimal and fraction equivalents, looking at dividing integers and decimals by decimals.
As historians, we explored Black Tudors and the Sea. We learned about the Kingdom of Benin, Henry VII and John Blanke, discovering more about diversity in Tudor England.
Next Week
In English, we will plan, draft and edit explanation texts, focusing on using parentheses, semi-colons and conjunctions accurately.
In maths, Columba will continue working on equivalent fractions and decimals, exploring thousandths as fractions and decimals, and finding the area of compound shapes. Aquila will focus on percentages of an amount as well as beginning a topic looking at area, perimeter and volume.
In history, we will learn about Jacques Francis and Henry VIII, as well as Diego, Francis Drake and Elizabeth I.
Please refer to the MCAS announcement sent earlier this week regarding drop off and pick up procedures moving forward.
Home Learning
Maths Practice Journals are due on Monday. Please continue to encourage your child to practise their spellings regularly at home, as little and often makes a big difference to confidence and progress. We’re aware of a mistake with the labels in the homework journals. Aquila have adapted to their change within the week and are now following the dates as written, Columba should follow the order of the pages stated but continue to follow the dates as written so will appear ‘behind’ by one week.
