Corvus Reflect and Review

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to Parents’ Evening on Wednesday this week. It was lovely to be able to discuss and hear from you about how the children are doing.

As Writers in Corvus, we learned about the ‘5 W’ questions and created our own questions to ask characters from our text. We the prepared for - and had - a class debate, mimicking the Beavers’ family meeting and deciding whether we should help Roz the Robot and her adopted gosling.  As writers in Draco, we have been learning how to write stage directions in order to adapt a chapter of the Wild Robot into a playscript.

As Mathematicians, Corvus have been working on our subtraction across boundaries (ones across tens and tens across hundreds) and were introduced to column addition. Draco, have been learning our multiplication times tables: The 3, 6 and 9 times-tables.

Corvus, in Computing, have been very much enjoying recording and editing sound, as well as learning about input and output devices. Draco, in RE, have enjoyed learning about Sikhism. After learning about the fundamental beliefs of Sikhism, the children imagined they had just been to an Amrit ceremony and produced a letter documenting what the ceremony was like, what happened and who was there. The purpose of the exercise was to see if children could ask and answer questions about the basic beliefs and practices of Sikhism. It was a very enjoyable lesson and we updated our floor book with photos documenting our learning journey!

Next Week

Next week in English, we will be working towards writing a letter as Roz to the Beaver family, thanking them for their help and its effect on the family’s future. In Maths, we will continue to explore column addition and in R.E., we will be exploring Sikhism using the enquiry question, ‘Does Khalsa make someone a better Sikh?’

After half-term, Draco's classroom will be undergoing some renovations and if you would like to see the final result, please come and visit us on our Open Day in November.

Home-learning

A reminder that all the children should have a book selected from our class library. If you notice that your child is reading a text that is too easy/difficult for them, please ask them to highlight this to the class teacher and change their book.

Maths Homework books will be due on Monday so please make sure that they are brought in for marking. This week, we will be marking Week 3.
