Corvus and Draco - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents,

Corvus

In English this week, we have been focused on our presentation and oracy skills, getting ready for our residential assembly. We really hope you enjoyed it as much as the rest of the school - everyone was amazing! It was fantastic to see how confidently everyone spoke in front of such a large number of people and it was lovely that the children’s personalities really shone through. We also continued our work on sentence construction based on an image.

As Mathematicians, we have continued to study time, learning about duration, start and end times and then solving time problems using our reasoning skills.

In the Wider Curriculum, we built models and drew sunsets in Art and continued to study Humanism in R.E.

Draco

As readers, we enjoyed focusing on the first chapter of ‘I was a rat’ by Philip Pullman. We explored the central characters using a literacy technique called ‘role on the wall,’ which we used to visually analyse the characters from the story.   We made inferences about the characters and collected evidence to support our point of view.  In spellings, we focused on the following spellings: subdivide, subway, submarine and submerge.  As you can see each spelling includes the prefix ‘sub.’

In Maths,  we interpreted data and looked at the following charts: pictograms and bar charts.  This was an enjoyable lesson for the class.

In the Wider Curriculum, we composed our own song lyrics. We were joined by an opera singer, a pianist, and a musician to help us put the piece of music together.  In our previous music lesson, we found inspiration from some of the artefacts in The Ashmolean Museum: a coromandel screen, porcelain china tea sets and a tea brick.  It has been a very enjoyable experience collaborating with Oxford Song.

Next week

In English, Corvus will start studying our text for this term - I Was A Rat by Philip Pullman and start to use the present perfect tense in our sentences. In Maths, we will start to study Money.

Future Visits

We have an available space for a parent in each class on both of our upcoming visits to the Museum of Oxford (22nd June) and the Cutty Sark (30th June). Please email ks2@nhps.org.uk if you are interested.
