Corvus and Draco - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents,

In English, Corvus have been learning about adverbs and how to use them effectively in a sentence. In Maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge of the multiplication and division of 2-digit by 1-digit numbers and have started to explore length and perimeter, measuring in metres and centimetres. In Design and Technology, we have been designing and building a grabber, for use in a Remote Operated Vehicle that is tasked with taking specimens from deep in the Antarctic sea. In Computing, we have been learning about what the internet is, the ways in which we can use it, and how to stay safe while using it.

Alternatively, in Draco, we have looked at different motivational speakers and the strategies they use to engage their audience. In the role of Ernest Shackleton, we are planning to write a motivational speech to encourage the crew to escape the ice and to sail to Elephant island.  Today, we looked closely at modal verbs and  how they can be used to express necessity and possibility.  The children generated some effective sentences from Shackleton’s perspective using modal verbs to motivate and inspire the crew to take action! As mathematicians, we have been finding the perimeter of rectilinear shapes.

Next week

Next week, both classes will continue to explore measurement, focusing on perimeter. In English and RE, we will be considering the miracles that the bible says that Jesus performed, answering the question “Could Jesus heal people? Did he perform miracles or was there another explanation?”

Home Learning
We will have Maths homework due on Monday so please ensure that the students bring in their books. All children should have a sticker in their homework books saying what is due on which date. If they do not, they should please highlight this to Misha, who will give them a new one. Times Table Rock Stars practice is proving very helpful so do encourage your children to log in at home.

We have updated our book banded books so all children should be clear on what band they are in. Please do encourage them to read their book and ask them questions about it.

Children should also be bringing their spelling log books home, which contain words that they need to practise.
