Corvus and Draco - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents,

Corvus

In English this week, we have continued to use colourful semantics to build effective sentences and been introduced to the present perfect tense. We also started to investigate this term’s book - ‘I Was A Rat’ by Philip Pullman, analysing the front cover and the opening news article.

As Mathematicians, we begun our study of shape, learning about horizontal and vertical, parallel and perpendicular, as well as turns and angles.

In the Wider Curriculum, we finished our study of Humanism and began our study of Animals (including Humans) in Science, learning about animal skeletons, human skeletons and human muscles. We also had another session with Oxford Song, continuing to write our class song in preparation for our exciting visit to the Ashmolean at the end of term.

Draco

As writers, we have been learning how to use time adverbials to explain exactly when, how long, or how often an event occurred in our class text, ‘When I was a Rat.’  Our sentences are outlined on the working wall for all to see!

As mathematicians, we consolidated our understanding of decimals, fractions and measurement in our end of term assessments.

In the wider curriculum,  we explored why a balanced diet is needed in  order to stay healthy. In Oracy, we had a lovely discussion about how humans get nutrition from what they eat.  In the role of nutritionists, we designed a healthy meal plan to use in the school canteen.

Next week

Next week is our Assessment Week, so we will be conducting end of year assessments in Reading and Maths throughout the week. In English, we will ask questions raised by the opening of the book and attempt to predict what will happen later on. In Maths, we will keep to study shape, learning about 2D and 3D shapes. In the Wider Curriculum, we will keep studying Animals, learning about diet and nutrition (of animals and humans).

Next week is our Assessment Week, so we will be continuing to complete assessments in the latter half of the week.  The children will be completing an extended piece of writing related to a diary where they will be in the role of one of the central characters.

We have an available space for a parent in Draco on our upcoming visit to the Museum of Oxford (22nd June). Please email ks2@nhps.org.uk if you are interested. Thank you to those who have shown interest for the Cutty Sark.
