Corvus and Draco - Reflect and Review
Dear Parents,
In Corvus, it’s been an intense week for us as we have been completing our end of term assessments in Reading and Maths. As writers, we edited our memory recounts. We then started to learn about how to use subordinate clauses to build complex sentences, applying that knowledge to building descriptive sentences. As Mathematicians, we finished our unit on Length and Perimeter. We have started to explore fractions, learning about numerators and denominators and comparing and ordering unit fractions.
As Scientists, we started to explore states of matter, looking at the properties of solids, liquids and gasses and categorising a variety of everyday things accordingly. Next week, we will be building towards our big write, telling the story of a drop of water as it journeys down to the sea. We will start to explore non-unit fractions in Maths and begin to design and build bridges in DT.
In Draco, as writers, we planned and composed our own Pantoum Poems evoking images of the rain/water through the use of figurative language and other literary devices. In Guided Reading, we have been reading a variety of Pantoum Poems analysing the content and looking closely at the structure. Next week, we begin looking at non-chronological reports about rivers. As Geographers, we have been comparing rivers in the United Kingdom, undertaking an explorative approach where we interpreted a range of geographical information about the six longest rivers. With Mrs Canea, we enjoyed our learning carousel where we visited 6 tables representing the 6 major rivers in the UK.
As Mathematicians, we have been partitioning mixed numbers and using a number line to order fractions and mixed numbers.
