Cygnus - Reflect and Review
Dear Reception families
This week has been very piratical!
We have looked for buried treasure, been marine explorers searching for a sunken pirate ship wreck, served fish stew in our role play pirate galley mud kitchen and made our own pirate maps and flags.
Maths this week looked at comparison and we have been thinking about comparing numbers within ten, noticing when numbers are increased and decreased and explaining our thinking.
This week our Drawing Club book was ‘The Pirates are Coming’ by John Condon. The story is a fun retelling of ‘the boy who cried wolf’ fable with the twist being that the pirates are coming home to the village as family and do not present a threat at all! Big 3 and Me this week focused on building trust. The children learned the British sign language signs for safe, shy and trust. The Big 3 and Me challenge this week was to try and build trust with someone and ask ‘Do you want to join in too?’
Thursday was world book day and it was wonderful to see so many fantastic outfits and celebrations of books and reading. We had some book day stories in the morning and the great performance of the Hansel and Gretel Opera which the children have been looking forward to sharing with you in the afternoon. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We rounded off our week with a great outdoor learning session on Friday.
We look forward to seeing more of you at the parents' evening on Wednesday next week.

Notices:
The children are now all reading books in phonics and will be bringing new books home every few days. Please make sure they always have their reading books in their books bags and bring the bags to school every day. The day we change books will change depending on the timetable.
Children need a pair of indoor shoes/plimsoles to change into to come into the classroom and a spare set of clothes, including pants and socks, for any accidents. These should be brought to school every day please.
Please make sure the children have a waterproof coat every day. We have outdoor play as often as possible and we need to be ready for changes in the weather. Please also bring a hat, scarf and gloves for the colder weather.
Please see further Greenhouse article today about the class' Eid celebration.
If your child is going home with someone else, please make sure you email the school office to advise us of the change: office@nhps.org.uk
Best wishes
