Cygnus - Reflect and Review

Dear Reception and Nursery families

Our final week together in class and so our final newsletter. It has been a great journey together and we have all learnt a lot in the last year.

This week we ended our learning about journeys by looking together at Aaron Becker’s award winning wordless picture book ‘Journey’. The girl in the story uses her imagination and a magical red crayon to go to another world. We thought about what journeys we can all go on in our imaginations. Vocabulary this week: lonely, find, discover, fantastic, create, prisoner, freedom and friend.

If you’d like to take a look at the book in an animated form the link is below:

We had our final Bertie RE week this week and learned about special places. We thought about what makes a place special to us. We considered home, school and special iconic places around the world before exploring some religious special places (mosques, churches and synagogues). The children shared their experiences of their own faith with the class.

We say goodbye to Reverend Clare this term and the children drew some lovely pictures for her farewell card.

The children enjoyed their Q&A session with the year 1 children. They asked lots of questions and year 1 were great hosts.

Sports day was a hot but great morning. Thank you so much to those who came to support and cheer on the children. They all loved seeing you there.

We finished our term with a fun morning of science meets seaside with our ice cream making experiment; cold, delicious, sprinkle laden fun had by all! Finally we had our end of term class picnic on friday.

Next week is transition week for the children. Please see the MCAS app for details about drop off at their new classrooms. Nursery children please come to the Reception class as usual. We have a fun week planned with learning based around the Oliver Jeffers book ‘Here we are’ and the school values. Our particular focus will be kindness.

Thank you all for your support and partnership in the introduction of your children to the school system, especially during the final term together. Their school learning journey has begun.

We wish all of you a great summer.

Best wishes

The Reception Team
