Cygnus - Reflect and Review

Dear Reception families

Nativity! Nativity! Nativity!

We do hope you enjoyed the Nativity as much as we did? The children all worked really hard and were all totally fabulous. What a great way to kick off the festive celebrations. They put on not one, but two great performances this week. Thank you so much for supporting them on Tuesday.

In Drawing Club this week we read ‘How does Santa go down the chimney?’ by Mac Barnett. This fun book had the children coming up with all sorts of ideas about how Santa could get into the house if there wasn’t a chimney. Vocabulary this week included: miniscule, visitor, healthy, gift, elongated, slippery, twinkling and topsy-turvy.

Mathematics classes focused on length and measure with present wrapping. Don’t be surprised if the children offer to help with some wrapping next time you give a gift. This could have been one of their favourite maths lessons!

On Friday we had the HSA Christmas Bazaar. Thank you to the team for organising such a fantastic event for everyone to enjoy.

We continue to work on achieving confidence with word blending before we start reading.

Do keep practicing the sounds and word building as often as you can.

Mrs Claxton will be sending individualised phonics QR code links for sounds the children need to practice. Please do have a look in book bags next week and practice over the holidays.

Our class focus next week will be RE. We will be exploring aspects of the Christmas story with the help of Bertie the Owl.

We have a fun week planned next week for the last week. It is Christmas Spirit week. Throughout the week, children are invited to join in the festive fun by dressing up according to each day’s theme and helping us celebrate the holiday season. Participation is completely optional. If your child chooses not to take part in the themed dress-up days, they should come to school in their regular uniform as usual. We look forward to a joyful and spirited week together!

End of Term, 1pm finish time

Coming soon:

19th December - End of Term, 1pm finish time

Notices:

Please return your circle art sketchbooks next week. A golden housepoint (worth 25 house points) is on offer for the best effort.

As per the message on MCAS this week, there will be no more forest school sessions this year. These sessions will resume after Christmas. The first Forest school session in January will be on the 16th.

However, please can you send children with their outdoor learning kit each day next week as our outdoor area is getting very muddy and we would like to utilise it!

Mr Waldock has asked for donations of junk modelling for our Christmas house event on Friday. He would like as many cereal boxes, cardboard rolls, yoghurt pots, etc as is possible! No giant boxes please, nothing where a side is bigger than A3 paper!

Best wishes

The Reception Team
