Cygnus - Reflect and Review
Dear Reception families
In our last week before the half term we have been hearing stories from around the world from different countries and different faiths.
We have looked at the moral of each story and considered what we might have done if faced with that challenge.
The children have focused on measurement this week with some nRich maths lessons on length and weight and some counting challenges to round off the week.
Big 3 and Me this week asked: What can we do to show we care for our friends? The children learned the British sign language signs for liked, trusting and grumpy. The Big 3 and Me challenge this week was to act in a caring way towards another person.
The children were excited, happy and a little sad to release our Painted Lady butterflies this week. We finished working on our butterfly diaries too.
As you will all now be aware, the preschool nursery children are joining us next term. We welcome a new member of staff into the Reception class, Kati Jervis, from Nursery. Szofia Homoki will be staying on as our Teaching Assistant next term. Our theme of journeys should allow lots of scope and opportunity to enable the children in their next steps together. The existing reception class will be consolidating and building on their learning in mathematics, taking their next steps in their journeys as readers and writers in phonics and beyond and thinking about their own journey so far and their next steps into year 1.
Our current routine days will remain unchanged so please return library books each Monday and be prepared for PE each Wednesday. Outdoor learning dates are listed below.
Have a fun and restful half term and we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 1st June.
Dates for your diary:
First day of Summer 2 term 1st June.
Outdoor learning dates Summer 2 term: 19th June, 26th June, 3rd July
Notices:
The children are now all reading books in phonics and will be bringing new books home every week. Please make sure they always have their reading books in their books bags and bring the bags to school every day. The day we change books will change depending on the timetable.
Children need a pair of indoor shoes/plimsoles to change into to come into the classroom and a spare set of clothes, including pants and socks, for any accidents. These should be brought to school every day please.
Please make sure the children have a waterproof coat every day. We have outdoor play as often as possible and we need to be ready for changes in the weather. Please make sure the children have a sunhat/cap at school and their own sunscreen to use at school.
If your child is going home with someone else, please make sure you email the school office to advise us of the change: office@nhps.org.uk
Best wishes
