Delphinus - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents and Carers,

As writers, children have been getting better and better at composing sentences about how they come to school. Our book in Drawing Club inspired children to be swallows journeying from the UK to Cameroon in Africa. Children have started to use specific gestures (as part of our new school-wide Voice 21 Oracy programme) which signal whether they are contributing a new idea or building upon what others are saying, and these we first used when discussing the book, The Invisible by Tom Percival. This has been helping children with their speaking and listening skills. The daily handwriting lessons are leading to good improvements in letter formation for all children. As mathematicians, we have been learning how to use a number line and ten frames and as scientists we have been learning about the properties of Everyday Materials. The children have also drawn some beautiful and unique Christmas scenes for their Christmas cards, and had a session on Oral Hygene.

Unfortunately the Didgeridoo workshop was cancelled but it has been rearranged for Friday 17th October. Children from Year 2 will be talking to Delphinus about Australia in preparation for this.

Next week:

In Drawing Club we will be looking at After the Storm, and getting lots of practise writing simple sentences. In Maths the children will be looking at equal to, less than and more than. In science children will be continuing their exploration of Everyday Materials and learning about where things come from around the world. They will also be learning ways of joining in Design and Technology. Please do send in junk modelling to support with this! The children will be performing their pirate song to Cygnus class, as well as learning new songs in preparation for the Harvest service.

Home-learning

Please do encourage your children to write whenever they can, and, as always, any writing done at home will be celebrated in class. The more they can practice the better they will get.

If you have time please listen to the children read their Read Write Inc books three times. The aim is for them to be able to read their books fluently, and in the final read for them to read like a storyteller, using varied intonation and expression.

For Harvest, please could children practise these two songs at home. I will also send home the lyrics.
