Reading Challenge

Following conversations at the Parent Forum over the past 12 months, we are working as a school to support families reading and support the encouragement of reading at home, considering how we can best celebrate this.

We’re excited to announce our new Reading Miles Global Challenge — an exciting way to inspire children to read and explore the world through books!

Throughout the challenge, pupils will read their way around the globe, collecting reading miles in their very own Reading Passport as they travel on a personal world tour.

📚 How it works:

  • Pupils will earn 500 reading miles for every 10 minutes spent reading — at school or at home, alone or with a family member.

  • The goal is to reach 33,000 miles (that’s about 11 hours of reading in total!) but all journeys will be celebrated!

  • The challenge is divided into seven journeys, each ending in a special ‘checkpoint city’ along the way.

  • A Reading Passport will be sent home this week and children, alongside their parents, are to mark as they complete each block of 10 minutes.

  • Children should bring their Reading Passports in on Monday 15th December so that we can celebrate all of the amazing reading in our school!

  • We can’t wait to see our pupils’ reading adventures unfold as they journey across the globe — one page at a time!

Thank you for your support in encouraging a love of reading at home.
